Abagaile Kimbrell & Aidan Russell Named ECC Scholar Athletes of the Year

On Thursday afternoon, the East Coast Conference revealed its 2019-2020 individual sport Scholar Athletes of the Year.

St. Thomas Aquinas College athletes Abagaile Kimbrell and Aidan Russell were selected for such distinction, with Abagaile receiving her academic honors in Cross Country and Aidan earning his for Indoor Track & Field.

Kimbrell has been named the Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year by boasting a 3.87 GPA as a Natural Sciences major. The junior from Monroe, NY was a USTFCCCA All-East Region selection and an All-Conference First Team honoree after a second-place finish at the ECC Championship in a time of 19:29.10. Abagaile capped off an outstanding fall season by earning a spot the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, which were held in Sacremento, California back in late November.

Russell earns the honor after compiling a 3.75 GPA as a Psychology major. On the track, the senior from Pearl River, NY finished in fifth place in the Mile (4:32.10) and sixth place in the 3,000m run (9:12.24) at the ECC Indoor Championship. Aidan scored a first place result in the 5,000m run at the Ramapo College Indoor Opener and a second place finish in the Mile at the Wagner College Shootout among his winter season highlights, and as a result picked up USTFCCCA All-East Region accolades.
