St. Thomas Aquinas baseball graduate, Andrew Hancsak hit a 3-run home run in his first professional at bat to tie the game up, 3-3. The former Spartan, class of 2012, plays for the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos League.
Ramirez and Taylor singled to open the inning. Next up to bat was Andrew Hancsak, a south Florida hitter/infielder picked up just before the trade deadline. "He's a real great kid. He swings the bat real well. He can play defense for us," Horn said.
Hancsak stepped to the plate and on his first pitch not only as an Invader but a professional ball player, hit a shot well out of Joe Bauman Stadium. "I was thinking, if the guy threw me a fastball, I'm getting my hips through and seeing what I could do with it," the young first baseman said. And once he got the bat on it, he knew it was gone. "It was a pretty good shot," he said.
That knotted the game at 3-3 and that's where it stayed through the bottom of the sixth when the Invaders got the winning run. Both teams got runners on base and had chances, but until that one run, both pitchers did what they needed to do.
"We never quit, that's how we do it," Horn said. "We'll take any win we can get. We work hard and we'll take our wins, but we wanted to finish the game."
