Senior Mike Russo has been named the East Coast Conference Player of the Week for his play in a perfect week for the Spartan Baseball team. Junior Robert Frank was named Pitcher of the Week for his performance in a 6-0 victory against Mercy College.
Russo had a big hand in a perfect week for the Spartans, going 6-for-10 with a pair of walks, nine RBI and four runs scored in his three games played. Four of those hits were of the extra-base variety, including two doubles and two homers into the further reaches of Provident Bank Park. He had a grand slam – his league-leading fourth homer -and six RBI in a victory over Mercy, and sported a 1.400 slugging percentage for the week.
Just two weeks after tossing a no-hitter against Bridgeport, Frank may have turned in an even more dominant performance against Mercy. In STAC’s 6-0 victory, he allowed just a fourth-inning double, but also struck out 15 – all over the first six innings – while walking two in a seven-inning complete-game. He has allowed just 17 hits in 34.1 innings of work this season.
