STAC Drops Regular-Season Finale: Spartans Take Top Seed into Thursday's ECC Tourney Opener

The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team dropped it's final regular season game of the season, a 7-2 East Coast Conference contest at Palisades Credit Union Park. After clinching a share of the ECC's Regular-Season Championship and the top seed in the conference tournament, the Spartans dropped their final three games to enter the post-season at 33-13, 18-6, with LIU Post improving to 28-18, 16-8.

Pregame ceremonies honored St. Thomas Aquinas seniors playing their final home game, but the Spartans found themselves in an early hole as LIUP scored a run in the second and four more in the third. A pair of STAC errors and a three-run homer from Michael Manzione were the key points in the Pioneers grabbing a 5-0 lead. Post added insurance with solo runs in the seventh and eighth innings - including Manzione's second homer of the night - while the Spartans offense struggled against starter Julien Arcos.

Giovanni Dingcong got STAC on the board with his league-leading 13th home run of the season, and Bobby Morse's sac fly in the ninth rounded out the scoring. Jason Salva started and took the loss for the hosts, falling to 4-3 in the process, while Arcos yielded just one run in eight frames to improve to 6-3.

The Spartans return to action in the opening game of the ECC Tournament this Thursday, May 10, at 12:00 noon against Bridgeport at Mitchel Park in Uniondale, NY. That will be followed by Game Two of the double-elimination format, featuring host and #2 seed Molloy taking on #3 LIU Post at 3:00 pm. If STAC wins Thursday's opener, they will advance in the Winner's Bracket and play at 12:00 noon Friday; should the lose they will play an elimination game on Friday at 9:00 am.

Schedule note - Thursday's STAC game against Bridgeport has been changed from its original listed start time of 3:00 pm to it's current 12:00 noon start.
