The St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team dropped an 11-7 decision to Southern New Hampshire University in the weekend finale at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Spartans came up empty during their tough opening weekend schedule, falling to 0-4 on the season with SNHU improving to 6-2.

STAC gained its first lead of the young season in the top of the second when Michael Morgan was hit by a pitch leading off and was brought around by Dylan stroking a home run to make the score 2-0. The Penmen quickly responded to tie the score in the bottom half, keyed by an RBI triple by Dakota Mulcay. SNHU took the lead with one in the third and two in the fifth before breaking the game open with a six-run sixth inning, opening an 11-2 lead.

Brian Donnelly's two-run shot in the seventh brought the Spartans closer, and his bases-loaded walk along with an unearned run drew the gap to 11-6 entering the final frame. STAC put two on with two out in the visiting ninth, and Klock's RBI single gave St. Thomas Aquinas hope but the rally was quelled to end the game. Klock had three hits to go with his three RBI, and Michael Cunney worked a strong final two innings for STAC.

The Spartans return north for a scheduled three-game weekend set at Adelphi University, with a noon double-header on Saturday, March 2, followed by a single game the next day. They will then head to the USA National Baseball Center in Cary, North Carolina, for six games, spanning from March 8 to 13.
