The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team captured the 2021 ECC Regular Season title and the #1 overall seed in the upcoming conference tournament, with an 18-3 triumph over D'Youville College on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 23-3 overall, with a 17-3 ECC mark, while D'Youville drops to 2-25, 0-21.
Leading the STAC offense in the regular season finale were Andrew Jemison, who went 3-for-5, with a double, 4 RBI and a run scored and James Versage, 2-for-5, with a double, 3 RBI and a run scored. Other key contributors on the day were; Greg DiGiaro (2-for-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored), Billy Minett (2-for-3, 2 RBI and a run scored) and Danny Di Marzo (1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored).
Angelo Baez got the start for the Spartans and churned out another terrific performance on the mound. Baez pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and two runs (1 earned), while only walking one and fanning nine to pick up his fifth win of the year. Relivers Jeffrey Dominguez, Josten Beato and Jason Salva were called upon by Head Coach Jon Garvey to get the final six outs of the game. The trio combined to surrender only a single hit and an unearned run, while walking one and striking out two.
