Spartans Stay Perfect with Doubleheader Sweep at Staten Island

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team returned to the diamond on Friday, to begin ECC play, and kept their perfect 2021 season record intact, sweeping a doubleheader against the College of Staten Island, 6-0 and 9-6 at the CSI Baseball Complex on Staten Island.

Andrew Jemison led the Spartans' hit parade with 5 hits, including a double, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored on the day. Danny Di Marzo (4 hits/1 double, 2 RBI and 1 run scored), Brian Donnelly (3 hits/1 home run, 1 RBI and 1 run scored) and Anthony Maisano (2 hits/1 double, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored) also contributed to STAC's offense.

STAC pitchers Angelo Baez (2-0) and TJ Gregory (1-0) picked up the victories on the mound. Baez allowed only 3 hits, with no runs, 2 walks and struck out 11 Dolphins over 7.0 innings in Game 1.

In game 2, Gregory surrendered only 1 hit, while striking out 2 in an inning of relief of both starter Reyan Mustafoski and Will Kindl. Mustafoski went 1.1 innings, giving up 4 hits and 5 runs (3 earned), while walking 4 and striking out 1. Kindl then came on to spell the Spartan starter and threw 1.2 innings, giving up a hit and a run (1 earned), while walking 2 and striking out 2. James Reilly picked up his first save of the season, pitching a perfect seventh inning, while striking out 2 CSI hitters.
