Spartans Rally for Exciting 6-5 Ten Inning, Walk-Off Victory Over Mercy

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team picked up a thrilling come-from-behind 6-5 victory in 10-innings over Mercy College on Wednesday afternoon at Palisades Credit Union Park in Pomona, NY. The Spartans improve to 17-2 overall, with an 11-2 ECC mark, while Molloy now stands at 14-8, 10-4.

Leading the STAC offense on the afternoon were Danny Di Marzo (3-for-5 with a Run Scored) and Greg DiGiaro (2-for-3, Double, RBI, and a Run Scored). Key hits included a ninth inning Anthony Maisano RBI double to left field, scoring Andrew Jemison, to knot the game at 5-5 and the game-winning Joseph Scamardella RBI single to center field, plating teammate Sean Lynch to break the stalemate and give the Spartans the walk-off victory in extra innings.

On the mound, Reyan Mustafoski picked up a no-decision in his appearance for STAC. Mustafoski pitched 4.0 innings, giving up 4 hits and 4 runs (3 earned), while walking 2 and striking out 1. The bullpen corps of Ryan Hicks, Dylan Leahy, Justin Baeyens, TJ Gregory and starter Angelo Baez combined for 6.0 innings of relief pitching, surrendering only 3 hits and a run (1 earned), while walking none and striking out 5 Mavericks. Baez picked up his fourth win of the season in five outings.
