Spartans Take Series Lead with 16-0 Game One Triumph over Queens in ECC Semis

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team took a 1-0 lead in their best-of-three ECC Semifinal series against Queens College, with a 16-0 victory over the Knights at Palisades Credit Union Park in Pomona, NY on Friday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 24-3, while Queens falls to 14-12.

Leading the STAC offense in game one of the series were Gregory DiGiaro, going 4-for-5 with a double and a home run, 2 RBI and four runs scored and Anthony Maisano with three hits in five at-bats, 2 RBI and a run scored. Other key contributors included; Danny Di Marzo (1-for-3, double, 3 RBI and a run scored) and Sean Lynch (1-for-2, 3 RBI and a run scored).

Alex Mack continued his terrific season on the mound, hurling seven shutout innings to pick up his ECC-leading seventh win of year. Mack, surrendered seven hits and a walk, while k'ing six Knights on the day. Head Coach Jon Garvey would then call upon Reyan Mustafoski to get the final six outs of the game and the right-hander did just that, as he gave up only two hits and struck out one in two innings of action.

Game Two of the ECC Semifinal Best-of-Three Series against Queens College takes place on Saturday, May 15 at Palisades Credit Union Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12pm with Queens College being designated as the home team on the scoreboard.

If necessary, a series tie-breaking Game Three would also take place on Saturday afternoon, approximately 30 minutes following Game Two, with STAC once again serving as the home squad.
