Spartans Suffer 12-3 Defeat at Southern New Hampshire

Manchester, N.H. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team suffered a 12-3 defeat at the hands of Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday afternoon at Sullivan Field on the campus of Saint Anselm College. STAC drops to 13-16 on the season, while SNHU improves to 20-7.

How it Happened

  • STAC opened the scoring in the top of the first inning via an RBI single by Matthew Johnson to make it 1-0.
  • The host Penmen went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the stanza on a two-run homer.
  • Southern New Hampshire expanded its lead to 4-1 in the second on a solo home run and an RBI single.
  • A wild pitch in the third inning gave SNHU a 5-1 advantage.
  • Gregory DiGiaro's solo shot in the top of the fourth inning narrowed the gap on the scoreboard for STAC to 5-2.
  • Five Penmen runs in the bottom of the frame, which included a home run, a sacrifice fly and a double gave SNHU a commanding 9-2 lead.
  • SNHU's fourth homer of the contest in the fifth increased their advantage to 10-2.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up its final run of the day on a Nick O'Connor RBI single to make it 10-3.
  • The Penmen tacked on two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth on a successful double steal and and an RBI single, giving So. New Hampshire a 12-3 advantage, which would be the final score.
