Palm Beach, Fla. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball continued its Florida Spring Break tour with a 4-2 victory over Felician University on Friday evening at the Santaluches Sports Complex.

STAC moves to 4-8 on the season, while Felician drops to 3-9.

How it Happened

  • Felician got the first run of the evening on a Colby Johnson second inning RBI single, scoring Levis Aguila to make it 1-0.
  • A Matthew Johnson RBI single in the bottom of the inning tied the game at 1-1, as Andrew Guerra came around to score for the Spartans.
  • The Golden Falcons broke the tie in the third inning via and another RBI single, this time by Luis DeLaCruz, bringing Jake Hall home to give Felician a 2-1 lead.
  • In the fifth, STAC evened the score at 2-2 on a Kyle Lagrutta RBI fielder's choice, plating Matthew Johnson.
  • A Felician error at first base in the seventh inning, allowed Sean Lynch to reach base and provided an opening for Matthew Johnson to score, giving St. Thomas Aquinas a 3-2 margin.
  • The Spartans got an eighth inning insurance run, courtesy of a Matthew Johnson RBI single, allowing C.J. Cumbo to score to make it 4-2, which would be the final.

Top STAC Performances

  • Matthew Johnson picked up two hits in two at-bats, with two RBI and two runs scored. He was also walked twice.
  • Andrew Guerra (double), Andrew Jemison and Christopher Conti also recorded hits for the Spartans.
  • TJ Gregory (No-Decision) - pitched six and a third strong innings for STAC, giving up eight hits and two runs, while fanning four Golden Falcons.
  • Mark Barillas and Justin Baeyens combined to surrender only two hits, while walking one and striking out two over the final two and two third innings. Barillas picked up his first win of 2022, with Baeyens earning his first save of the season.
