STAC Baseball Gets Back On Track with 12-5 Win Over Post

Lake Worth, Fla. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball got back in the win column on Wednesday afternoon, earning a 12-5 victory over Post University at Santaluces High School.

STAC improves to 5-10 on the year, while Post falls to 12-5.

How it Happened

  • Post opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning, plating three runs, as an Evan Cornwall single, combined with a throwing error, scored Matt Goehrig to make 1-0.
  • Hunter Keller then reached first on another error while bunting, which scored Jordan Glazer to double the Eagles lead at 2-0.
  • A Robert Olah single to the STAC pitcher, moved the runners once again and brought Evan Cornwall around to score, making it 3-0 Post.
  • In the sixth, Andrew Guerra's 3-RBI triple, scoring Sean Lynch, Danny Di Marzo and Kyle Lagrutta, tied the game at 3-3.
  • Di Marzo then gave STAC its first lead of the day on a 2-RBI single to left field, with both Andrew Jemison and Gregory DiGiaro scoring to make it 5-3.
  • Andrew Guerra's single to second base brought home yet another Spartan run, as Sean Lynch touched the plate to expand the lead to 6-3.
  • However, Post would not go away quietly and in the eighth, Brycin Hernandez's single to left and Harry Allegra's pinch-hit single to the shortstop, allowed Jimmy Brennan and Hernandez to score, cutting the Eagles deficit to just one at 6-5.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas struck back for five insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning, as first Andrew Guerra's 2-RBI double to right field, scored both Danny Di Marzo and Paul DeVito to make it 8-5.
  • Christopher Conti's RBI single to right field then brought home Andrew Guerra, followed by Andrew Jemison's single to centerfield scoring Conti to push the STAC advantage to 10-5.
  • C.J. Cumbo closed out the Spartan hit parade with a 2-RBI single of his own, which allowed both Matthew Johnson and Andrew Jemison to come home and give the maroon and gold the 12-5 victory.
