Spartan Baseball Drops 3-2 Decision to Stonehill

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team dropped a 3-2 non-conference contest with Stonehill College on Saturday at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach. STAC moves to 1-2, while Stonehill improved to 1-3 on the early season.

How It Happened

  • Conor Kiely reached first via a fielding error by the STAC third baseman, which scored Jack Marshall and gave Stonehill a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning.
  • A Noah Lucier bases loaded RBI groundout in the fifth, plated Taylor Gaspart to double the Skyhawks margin on the scoreboard to 2-0.
  • Blane Lidsky would then bring home Conor Kiely on an RBI single to left to close out the scoring in the fifth inning.
  • Following a lead-off triple by Gregory DiGiaro to kick off the sixth inning, STAC would get themselves on the board on an RBI groundout by Billy Minett, bringing DiGiaro home to close the deficit to two at 3-1.
  • Danny Di Marzo cut the Stonehill lead to one (3-2) in the eighth, as he would stroke a one-out double, scoring Gregory DiGiaro.
  • The Spartan comeback would be shut down in the ninth, as Skyhawks closer Billy Duff picked up a strikeout and turned a game-ending 6-4-3 double play to earn his first save of the 2022 campaign.
