Spartans Compete in League of Legends, As ECC Bests Peach Belt Conference in d2 Champions Challenge

The Spartan Esports team had a busy weekend with action in Fortnite, as well as the d2 Champions Challenge in League of Legends.

The League of Legends team took part in the d2 Champions Challenge, a round robin competition between teams from the East Coast Conference and the Peach Belt Conference. The Spartans took on Georgia College and North Georgia in their first two games, losing each of those tightly contested matchups 2-0. In their final tilt of the challenge, St. Thomas Aquinas was able to take down UNC Pembroke by a score of 2-1. The Spartans were led in victory by junior Chae Yu who paced the team in kills in each of his team's matches. Director of Esports Kevin Roth was proud of his team's performance, saying, "We are gracious to the Peach Belt conference and the East Coast Conference for organizing this exciting competition. Our team is continuing to grow and learn. Communication and teamwork is improving as we start to trend in the right direction."

In Fortnite, the Spartans only had one competition this weekend, as they took down a duo from SUNY Canton in straight sets for a 2-0 win. With one more week to go in regular season play before the winter break, the duo of Kian Bachinsky and Alex Ordonez have played to a 5-1 regular season record, while Carlton Thomas and Kyle Reinhardt have worked to a 3-3 record.
