STAC Esports Returns with Super Smash Bros., NBA 2K and Fortnite Action

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Esports team is off to a hot start for the Fall 2021 Season. This season the Spartans have seven teams competing in three different games, including the newest addition to the STAC lineup, Super Smash Bros.

A lot of excitement has been generated around the launch of the Super Smash Bros team here at the college, and they are off to a tremendous start both in the ECC and the ECAC. The East Coast Conference competes in a 1v1 solo battle. Our three squads are led by Matthew Otterstedt, Joseph Murphy, and Nicholas Shalaba. Murphy has started the season 2-0, with two convincing wins. Shalaba stands at 2-1 and Matthew Otterstedt sits at 1-2 through three matches.

The Eastern College Athletic Conference competes in a 3v3 crew battle. That team consists of Otterstedt, Murphy, and Shalaba, as well as Zachary Longua, Stephen Saffoti and Aiden De La Rosa. The team is off to a 2-1 start overall, with wins over Assumption and Central Methodist. The Spartans currently sit tied for 15th place out of 112 teams from across the country.

Meanwhile, our two NBA 2K squads are also off to a supurb start. Freshmen Richard Brady is in first place with a 3-0 record. Dyson Hardwick sits tied for 18th place with a 1-2 record.

Finally, our Fortnite team has 23 total points so far this season and sits in the middle of the overall leaderboard at 25th place out of 58 teams. The Fortnite group consists of Dyson Hardwick, Caleb Franco and Richard Brady.
