Esports Update: Spartans Continue Fall Successes This Spring As Postseason Tournaments Get Underway

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Esports Team continues to build upon its fall successes this spring, as the Super Smash Bros., NBA 2K22 and Fortnite squads wrap up regular season play and head to their respective postseason tournaments.

In Super Smash Bros. action, the Spartan 3v3 crew battle teams have continued their success from last fall in the current spring campaign. The East Coast Conference team is currently 7-1 and ranked in second place, just one game behind for the top spot. In the ECAC, the team currently holds the #8 seed in the playoffs and is scheduled to play the #25 seed from Concord University on Monday, April 4 at 8pm in a Best-of-Three Series.

The ECC 1v1 league, which includes defending champion Nicholas Shalaba, is off to an perfect 6-0 start and is tied for first place. Zachary Longua is currently in third place at 6-1 and is one game away from teammate Shalaba.

Meanwhile, both STAC NBC 2K22 teams are also having success. Dyson Hardwick sits at 5-3, good for eighth place in the PlayStation league. He faces a first round matchup with #9 seed Lakeland University. Freshman Richard Brady holds a 4-4 record and is sixth in the Xbox league. His First round matchup is with No. 11 seeded Coe College.

Finally, the Fortnite team currently sits in 26th place in the 44 team ECAC league. The team has compiled 74 total points throughout the season.
