8th Ranked Hawks Beat Spartans, 4-0 in Field Hockey

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's field hockey team lost 4-0 to the highly competitive Saint Anselm's team. The Spartans battled against the 7-1 host, holding them to only one goal in the first half.

Jessica Stewart recorded nine saves for the game while Kaitlyn Gee saw a few minutes in goal and recorded a single save.  The Spartan offense struggle to get good looks over the stingy Hawks defense.

Hannah Friend scored the eventual game-winner in the ninth minute of action as she poked home a goal past the Spartans' Stewart to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. The score would stay that way through the half despite Saint Anselm holding a 14-0 edge in shots in the period.

The Hawks took a 2-0 lead when Rose Mooney fired a pass through the circle that found Friend on the back post for an easy tally. The freshman completed the hat-trick five minutes later as she tipped home a blast off the stick of Allia Connolly to put Saint Anselm on top 3-0.

Abby Walker scored her first goal of the season in the 54th minute as she spun a back-handed shot through the legs of Stewart to give the game its final score of 4-0.

The Hawks dominated as the ball remained in Spartan territory for most of the night. Saint Anselm held a 26-0 edge in shots in the game and attempted all 16 corners in the game.

STAC will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Southern New Hampshire.
