The St. Thomas Aquinas women's field hockey team lost to Queens University (N.C.), 3-2 on Sunday morning.  The game was tied through regulation and after neither team scored in two overtime sessions it finished in a shootout in favor of Queens.  

Danielle Heady put the Spartans on the scoreboard off an assist from Kaitlyn Gutenberger just nine minutes into the game.  Queens University's Renee Smith responded with a goal five minutes later to even things up.  Smith's goal was assisted by Kayleigh Lawrence.

Gutenberger gave the Spartans back the lead at the 20:36 mark in the first half off an assist from Kerry Conlon.  The Spartans held the 2-1 advantage into the break and through most of the second half.  Mazvita Mtisi scored a late second half goal for Queens to tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime.

Both teams remained socreless through two overtime sessions which forced a shootout. Gutenberger and Louise Richardson each connected on goals in the shootout but the visitors were able to capatilze one extra time beating the Spartans 3-2.  

Jessica Stewart had 15 saves for St. Thomas Aquinas while Miranda Childers recorded 6 saves and the win for Queens.  

The Spartans finished their second season of competition with a record of 2-15.  The Spartans played all but three games two a one or two goal difference this season and will look to build off that in the 2017 campaign.
