Spartan Field Hockey Picks Up 1st Win of the Season at Ramapo, 4-2

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's field hockey team won their first game of the 2017 season on Thursday afternoon against Ramapo College. 

Trailing 1-0, Jacqueline Dowling scored off an assist from Briannah Thorne to tie things up.  The game was tied at the break with STAC having a slight advantage, 9-7 in shots on goal.  

Taylor Hickey scored off an assist from Carly Davin to give the Spartans their first lead.  Meghan McCarren extended the Spart lead to 3-1 with her goal off an assist from Dowling.  The Roadrunners tried to close the gap with a goal from Melissa Choka but the Spartans continued to stay on the attack.  Alexandra Vippolis added the final goal of the game off Thorne's second assist and the Spartans prevailed, 4-2.  

The Roadrunners held a 23-17 advantage in shots on goal for the game.  Suzanne Clarke recorded 14 saves for the Spartans in the win.  STAC will be back in action on Sunday when they host Molloy College at noon.
