Spartans Edge Mercy, 2-1 in Overtime; Pistner Tallies Game Winner

The St. Thomas Aquinas field hockey team beat Mercy College, 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday afternoon. Kaylee Pistner scored the game winner off an assist from Briannah Thorne.

Thorne scored the first goal of the game and her third of the season, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead in the opening quarter.  The Mavericks responded with a first quarter goal of their own from Alicia Williams.  Both teams remained scoreless for the next three quarters forcing the overtime session.  Suzanne Clarke recorded four saves for STAC while Julia Amell tallied five saves for the visitors.  

The Spartans held an 11-8 edge in penalty corners and 10-8 in shots.  The Spartans go to 2-2 with the win and will return to action on Saturday when they host Kutztown at 12:00 pm.
