Spartans Season Ends at National Championships

The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team finished its season today as half of the field was cut due to bad weather for the final round at the NCAA Championships.  The Spartans complete one of their best seasons in the history of the program with their second trip to the NCAA Championships.

STAC was lead by junior Chris Fitzpatrick who shot a team low, 231 over his three rounds.  Fitzpatrick had a low score of 72, even par in his final round of the season.  The junior was a Division II PING All-Region selection for the second year in a row.  Fitzpatrick won three consecutive tournaments during the regular season and was regionally ranked throughout the season.

Senior Sean Campbell completed his collegiate career with back to back trips to the National Chamiponships.  Campbell shot his lowest round, 78 on Thursday to complete a great four year campaign.  The senior also took first place honors along with Fitzpatrick when they each shot 72 in the First Rockland Collegiate Cup.

The Spartans finished their spring season with a Division II head-to-head record of 40-5-1 including three tournament victories, one 2nd place finish and one third place finish.  This spring season also gave Coach Stephen Ferrara his 300th career head-to-head Division II victory in his 4 years at St. Thomas Aquinas.  Coach Ferrara was named the Eaton Golf Pride Division II East Regional Coach of the Year which was announced by the GCAA.

STAC finished third in the Super Regionals to advance to the NCAA Championships where they finished 18 out of the top 20 programs in the country.  STAC will return 4 out of the 5 players that competed on the National stage for next season.
