Spartan Golf Finishes Third at Post University Eagles Invitational

The St. Thomas Aquinas Golf team finished 3rd in their fourth event of the fall this weekend at the Post University Eagles Invitational at Watertown Country Club. The team fell short by 5 shots behind the champions from Assumption and was only 1 shot back of second place Le Moyne College.

During the first round of play the team finished with a score of 299 behind the brilliant play of senior Shkelqim Kukaj. Kukaj made 6 birdies and only 3 bogeys on the day to shoot an impressive 3 under par 68. Sean Trapp was able to grind out a solid round of 76 while Travis Fay posted a round of 77. Rounding out the team scoring were Jake Yarmolowitz and Norman Viron who both shot rounds of 78. The team found themselves in 5th place at the end of the day, 8 shots back of Assumption College.

The second round of play conditions became more difficult as the winds increased and the greens got firmer. Leading the team were Trapp and Viron who both battled to impressive rounds of 72. Kukaj struggled to find his groove during the round, but managed to post a 75. Travis Fay had a difficult stretch of holes in the middle of his round, but was able to play his final 8 holes at 1 under par to shoot 78. Jake Yarmolowitz had a tough day on the links, carding a round of 86. The Spartans team score of 297 was the lowest round of the day, but not enough to catch the champions from Assumption.

STAC will be back in action next weekend at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championship hosted by Division I Wagner College at the Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, NJ.
