Spartans Finish in 13th at Barry University "Battle At The Shores"

Miami Beach, Fla. - After dealing with a cancelled flight and hours in other flight delays, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Golf team finally made it down to the Battle at the Shores hosted by Barry University. Battling fatigue and warm temperatures, the Spartans came out during the first day of play and managed to shoot team scores of 305 and 303. After getting off to a very difficult start, the team steadied the ship being led by Donte Groppuso who posted a solid round of 74. Right behind Groppuso was senior Jake Yarmolowitz who fired a round of 75. Norman Viron and Nolan Skaggs battled all day to shoot 77 and 79 respectively. During the second round of the day, the team was led by an incredible 1-under par 71 from Jake Yarmolowitz. Groppuso continued his solid play, posting a round of 75 while senior Joe Tammaro rebounded after a difficult first round to shoot 78. Norman Viron was able to manage a 79 while Nolan Skaggs finished with an 82.

During the final round of play the winds picked up significantly and the team played nicely in the difficult conditions. Groppuso played another excellent round of golf, firing a 1-over 72. Tammaro and Viron were able to card rounds of 76 and 77 respectively, while Yarmolowitz finished with a 79. Rounding out the team scoring was newcomer Nolan Skaggs who shot a round of 81.

The team's 2-day score of 912 (305-303-304) was good for a 13th place finish.
