Spartans Start Season with 4th Place Finish at Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational

The St. Thomas Aquinas Golf team opened their season this past weekend at the Franklin Pierce University Fall Invitational. The team struggled in their first round of the year posting a team score of 305. Leading the Spartans was senior Jake Yarmolowitz who played a steady round of golf, carding a 73. Freshman Tanner Little was able to post a round of 76 in his first collegiate action while fellow freshman Nolan Skaggs managed to shoot a 77. Senior Joe Tammaro struggled out of the gate shooting 79, while sophomore transfer Donte Groppuso posted a round of 82 in his first action. The teams first round 305 put them in 11th place in the 14 team field.

After shaking off the rust, the team put together the 2nd best round of the tournament during round 2. Joe Tammaro and Nolan Skaggs were both able to fire under-par rounds, shooting 70 and 71 respectively. Jake Yarmolowitz continued his solid play shooting an even par round of 72. Tanner Little was able to card another round of 76, while Donte Gropuso posted a 79. The team's score of 289 moved the team all the way up to 4th place. Jake Yarmolowitz's 2 day score of 145 (73-72) earned him a top 10 finish. Nolan Skaggs total of 148 (77-71) was good for a T-18 finish while Joe Tammaro's 149 (79-70) earned him a T-22 finish. Tanner Little (76-76) finished T30 while Donte Groppuso (160) finished in 56th place.

The Spartans are back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the Griffin Invitational hosted by Saint Leo University at the Country Club of Petersburg, in Petersburg VA.
