Men's Hoops Streak Snapped at Five, Spartans Stopped by Felician, 74-67

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak snapped by Felician College, 74-67 at Aquinas Hall. Chaz Watler led the Spartans with 18 points while Aaron Cust added 13 as STAC fell to 5-2 with the non-conference setback. Felician improved to 4-4 on the season.

Both teams battled through the early minutes, which saw several lead changes and neither team able to extend its lead beyond three points. That changed when Felician's JR Pringley's bucket gave the visitors a 23-18 lead with just under nine minutes to play in the first half.

STAC once again rallied to tie the score at 26-26 on an Eli Maravich jumper, but the Golden Falcons reeled off the next seven points to regain the edge. Anthony Obery's three-pointer at the buzzer sent Felician into the halftime locker room with a 40-34 edge.

Trying to recapture the magic that has seen the Spartans rebound from several second half deficits this season, STAC quickly scored the first six points after the break to tie the score. Ligntning was not to strike again, as the Golden Falcons used a 10-2 outburst to open a 53-44 advantage.

Felician would slowly pull away thereafter, opening a lead of as many as 17 points at 74-57. STAC ran off the final 10 points of the contest, but it would be too little, too late. Joining Watler and Cust in double-figures was Alushula Odongo with 12 points, and Omar Kellman with 10. Felician out-rebounded St. Thomas Aquinas 33-30 on the evening.

The Spartans will now enjoy a break before returning to action on Saturday, December 14, when they host Georgian Court in a 3:00 pm start. They will resume East Coast Conference play with a showdown at the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, December 18.
