Justin-credible! Reyes Rolls for 49 as Spartans Stop Adelphi, 92-75

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team rode a dominant 49-point effort from Justin Reyes to a 92-75 victory over Adelphi University at Aquinas Hall. The Spartans have now won seven straight and 12-of-13 to improve to 12-3 overall, with Adelphi dropping to 5-9 on the season.

Though STAC scored the game's first five points, Adelphi rallied for the next six, setting off half that included six lead changes and the game tied on 10 occasions. Reyes, relegated to a reserve role for the first time this season, capped off a 20-point first half with a pair of free throws as the Spartans carried a narrow 41-40 lead into the break.

Reyes hit a layup and a three-point play in the first minute of the second half to spark a 10-3 run, giving the hosts a 51-43 advantage. Over a span of under eight minutes, the senior poured in 18 of his team's 22 points to open a 63-49 gap. Nick Cambio tried to keep the Panthers in the game with strong perimeter shooting, but STAC's lead was never in single-digits thereafter.

En route to his career-high performance, Reyes hit a torrid 18-for-21 from the field, including a three-pointer, while adding 12-14 from the foul line. James Mitchell added 10 for STAC, with Cambio pacing Adelphi with 24 points and Michael Coffey chipping in 18.

The Spartans return to East Coast Conference action, attempting to retain their first place start when Mercy College visits on Wednesday, January 3. Double-header action starts with the women's game at 5:30, followed by the men's contest.
