Spartan Basketball Alum Justin Reyes Earns Silver Medal at 2019 Pan American Games

Former St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball standout Justin Reyes earned a Silver Medal, along with his teammates from Puerto Rico, on Sunday at the 2019 Pan American Games, which took place in Lima, Peru.

The squad from Puerto Rico went 3-0 in pool play, beating Venezuela (73-64), the Virgin Islands (101-89) and the United States (87-84), then defeated the Dominican Republic 65-63 to advance to the tournament final, before falling to Gold Medal Winner Argentina (84-66).

Reyes participated in all five games that Puerto Rico played in the tournament, averaging 5.6 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. Justin also picked up 1 assist, 2 steals and 2 blocks during his time on the hardwood in Peru.

Justin Reyes cemented his status as one of the greatest athletes to ever don the maroon-and-gold. His four years (2014-2018) in Sparkill included leading the Spartans to the first three East Coast Conference championships in program history, three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, three consecutive ECC Player of the Year honors, and his current status as the conference's all-time leading points scorer. With his 2,247 career points, Reyes stands second all-time in St. Thomas Aquinas history, and first in the program's Division II era.

The Haverhill, Mass., native earned First Team All-American status from Basketball Times, the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), in addition to being a finalist for the prestigious Bevo Francis Award for the nation's best Small College player for two consecutive seasons. During his four collegiate seasons (2014-2018), STAC amassed an impressive 102-29 overall record.

Reyes was the 28th pick overall in the 2018 G League draft, the highest draft position ever for an ECC alum, and most recently played for the Salt Lake City Stars (Utah Jazz affiliate).
