The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team fell to a 76-59 setback in a non-conference contest at the University of New Haven. The Spartans saw their winning streak snapped at six games, falling to 11-2 overall while New Haven improved to 8-4 with the impressive win.

STAC's offense struggled from the outset and Ross Jones hit a three to cap a 17-4 Chargers run, opening a 22-8 lead after nine minutes of play. The Spartans gained their footing and trimmed the gap to 34-26 on a Kam Murrell three-point play with 3:44 left in the first half, but New Haven again created distance in opening up a 44-32 gap at the break.

There was little suspense added in the second half as STAC failed to draw closer than a double-digit margin, while UNH's defense continued to frustrate the visitors while expanding their lead to as many as 21 down the stretch.

Murrell and Demetre Roberts posted 12 points each and Osbel Caraballo added 11 for STAC, while Elijah Bailey led four Chargers in double-figures with a game-high 25.

The Spartans return to East Coast Conference action this week, hosting New York Institute of Technology on Wednesday, January 9. Double-header action starts with the women's teams squaring off at 5:30, followed by the men's contest at approximately 7:30.
