Win Streak at 4 as Spartans Hold On at Holy Family, 79-66

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team captured a 79-66 victory in a non-conference contest at Holy Family University. The Spartans remain undefeated at 4-0 overall, with Holy Family slipping to 1-3.

Brendan Hoban gave HFU and early 3-2 lead with a three-pointer, but Jamar Sudan answered emphatically, scoring the game's next seven points. With the lead standing at 11-7, newcomer Avante Gilbert sparked STAC, doing all the scoring in a 7-2 run as the margin swelled to 18-9. The Tigers remained in striking distance with a 22-16 deficit midway through the half, but a three-point play by Sekou Cisse capped a 15-1 run to open the gap to 37-17 en route to a commanding 45-25 halftime cushion.

Osbel Caraballo scored and Grant Singleton added a trey to start the second half, but the Tigers showed signs of life with a 15-5 run to draw within 55-40 with 12 minutes left. STAC's shooting ran cold and consecutive threes from Hoban and Karan Randolph helped narrow the score to 66-61 with four minutes on the board. Grant Singleton and Osbel Caraballo had the answer with back-to-back hoops as STAC held off the charge.

STAC placed three scorers in double-figures and three more with nine each, as Singleton and Cisse had 14 each to lead the charge while Caraballo added 10. Eric Esposito hit four from downtown to lead all scorers with 17 for Holy Family.

The Spartans, who swept their season-opening road trip, finally play their Home Opener at Aquinas Hall this Wednesday, November 20, in a 7:00 pm tip. The game is the first of three straight with potentially major impact in the East, as STAC follows with a trip to Jefferson University on Saturday, November 23 at 1:00 pm before returning home for a showdown with Dominican College on Monday, November 25 at 7:00 pm.
