Spartans Pick Up Second Straight Triumph, 72-55 at Findlay

Findlay, Ohio - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team picked up its second straight victory with a 72-55 triumph over Findlay University on Saturday afternoon in the Buckeye State.

Eight different Spartans recorded a point for the Spartans (4-2), with Sean Moore leading the way with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Demetre Roberts also posted a 13-point effort, with Antonio Vendola chipping in 11 points on the afternoon.

STAC shot 47.4 percent from the field (27-57) in the pre-Thanksgiving matchup, while making 13-of-29 three-pointers. Findlay shot 40.7% (24-59) on the day, as four Oilers scored in double-digits.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS: 

  • Eight different players recorded double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Demetre Roberts led the Spartans with seven assists on Saturday.
  • Sean Moore was a perfect 7-for-7 in field goal attempts on the day, with Antonio Vendola going 4-for-5.
  • STAC scored the game's first basket at 18:44 of the first half on a Moore three-point jump shot and held onto the lead for the remainder of the contest. 
  • The Spartans were 13-30 (43.3%) from the field and 7-for-16 (43.8%) from three in the first half and 14-27 (51.9%) and 6-for-13 (46.2%) from three in the second half.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas picked up 11 steals in the contest, while Findlay turned the ball over 14 times.
  • STAC outrebounded Findlay 31-29 on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • St. Thomas Aquinas was strong from the opening tip, scoring its first basket 1:16 into the game and taking the lead to the final buzzer.
  • Sean Moore paced the offense for the Spartans in the first half, with seven points.
  • STAC's largest lead in the first half was 14 (33-19) with 0:09 left in the opening frame.
  • Findlay would get within three points early in the second half, but would get no closer, as the Spartans extended their lead back to double-digits, including their largest lead of 20 with just under two minutes remaining in the contest.
  • STAC's bench scored 13 of the team's 72 total points.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas logged a 15-5 advantage in points off of turnovers.

UP NEXT: St. Thomas Aquinas will pause for the Thanksgiving holiday, but will return to action on Sunday, November 28 when the Spartans visit regional foe Saint Anselm College. Tip-off is set for 1pm at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium in Manchester, New Hampshire.
