Burns, Finkel, Harrison Power Spartans to 8-2 Win over East Stroudsburg

Patrick Burns, Stephen Finkel and Douglas Harrison each scored two goals for the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans in an 8-2 win against the East Stroudsburg University Warriors at Revolution Ice Center in Pittston, PA on Sunday.

Tyler Brooks and Giancarlo DiLorenzo also scored for STAC, and Shaun Benson had five assists. Peter Gianatiempo made 22 saves to pick up his first victory of the 2018-2019 season.

East Stroudsburg opened the scoring, as Travis Moore tallied just 1:12 into the first. However, St. Thomas Aquinas was able to light the lamp with four consecutive goals by Tyler Brooks (2:09), Patrick Burns (9:21), Stephen Finkel (7:31) and Douglas Harrison (17:36) to make it a 4-1 STAC advantage. The home team Warriors closed out the scoring in the period on a goal by Ray Seakan just before the buzzer sent the teams to their respective locker rooms with a score of 4-2.

The middle stanza saw the Spartans score twice more, as Finkel and Burns each picked up their second goals of the game, extending the St. Thomas Aquinas College lead to 6-2 after two.

In the final period of play, STAC picked up two additional goals, as Harrison knotted his second of the evening and Giancarlo DiLorenzo was able to get onto the scoresheet, giving the Spartans and commanding 8-2 lead and the subsequent victory.

Shots on goal for the game were 62 for St. Thomas Aquinas and 24 for East Stroudsburg.

St. Thomas Aquinas College returns home for an MCHC showdown with the defending champion Fordham University Rams on Friday, October 26. Opening face-off is scheduled for 8:30pm at Sport-O-Rama.
