Spartan Ice Hockey Opens 2018-19 Season Falling to Marist, 6-3

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Ice Hockey team opened their 2018-2019 schedule, falling to Marist College, 6-3. The non-league contest took place at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The opening period featured the home team Foxes striking twice, as Brendan Buckley scored just inside of eight and a half minutes into the first, followed by a Brian Hogan tally as time ran out on the period, making it 2-0 Marist.

The second period saw Marist light the lamp four more times, as Justin Genga, Anthony Giannone, Harry Bahrenburg all scored to make it a 5-0 Foxes advantage. St. Thomas Aquinas got on the board six and a half minutes into the middle stanza, as Tyler Brooks netted his first of the season, cutting the deficit to 5-1, but Marist continued their scoring when Brian Hogan tallied his second of the game, making it 6-1 to close out the middle frame.

In the final period of play, the Spartans were able to mount pressure on Marist by depositing two goals into the back of the net. Patrick Burns and Douglas Harrison each scored their first goals of the new season, pushing the score closer at 6-3. However, the Foxes were able to finish out the game and gain the victory.

Spartan Goalie Carl Lorenz (L, 0-1) stopped 40 of 46 shots faced.

Shots on goal for the game were 22 for St. Thomas Aquinas and 46 for Marist.

St. Thomas Aquinas College returns to action on Friday, September 28. as the Spartans host their annual Alumni Exhibition Game at Sport-O-Rama Ice Rinks. Puck drop is set for 8:30pm. STAC opens their MCHC regular season schedule on Friday, October 6 at home versus Columbia University, with the opening faceoff scheduled for 8:30pm.
