Spartans Rally for 3-2 Shootout Win Over USMMA Kings Point
Douglas Harrison tallied the shootout winner for the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans in a 3-2 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) on Friday night at Sport-O-Rama Ice Rinks.

Patrick Burns and Stephen Finkel each scored a goal in regulation time, while goalie Carl Lorenz made 50 saves in net to push his record to 7-3 on the season, as STAC closed out the home portion of their 2019-2020 fall semester schedule.

Prior to the contest between the Spartans and Mariners, both squads paused to honor the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, both active and retired, along with all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation as part of Salute to Service/Military Appreciation Night. The teams welcomed retired United States Marine Corps Corporal and St. Thomas Aquinas College Alum Einar Gary Brissing, along with United States Army Lieutenant Colonel Corey James to the ice to be recognized for their service to our country. Each was presented with a souvenir jersey and hat commemorating the evening's events. Kings Point Head Coach Rick Dominique then spoke on behalf of their service academy about the history of the USMMA. The teams then unfurled a large American Flag on the ice for the playing of the Star Spangled Banner and a ceremonial puck drop took place between Corporal Brissing, Lieutenant Colonel James, Spartan Captain Shaun Benson and Mariner Captain Joseph Gramegna.
