Spartans Close Regular Season with 3-2 Triumph over USMMA Kings Point

James Ryan scored a late second period power play goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, for St. Thomas Aquinas College in a 3-2 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) on Saturday night at Parkwood Ice Rink in Great Neck, NY.

Carter Taylor and Shaun Benson also lit the lamp for the Spartans, while Carl Lorenz stopped 48 of 50 shots faced, improving his record to 13-6-1.

St. Thomas Aquinas (13-7-1 Overall, 9-3-0 MCHC) now turns its attention to the postseason and the MCHC playoffs. The 4-team, single elimination tournament begins on Saturday, February 22nd with the semifinal round at the Dix Hills Ice Rink in Dix Hills, NY. Times for those contests are TBA and will be based on seeding, which will be sorted after the final regular season games conclude this Sunday.

The two advancing teams from the semis will faceoff in the MCHC final on Sunday, February 23rd, which will also be held at Dix Hills Ice Rink. Puck drop for the championship game is set for 4pm.
