The St. Thomas Aquinas College opened their COVID-shortened 2021 Spring Season with a 2-0 victory over the Sacred Heart University Pioneers on Friday evening at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Playing a mini, non-conference schedule due to the pandemic, the Spartans hit the ice for game action for the first time since February 22, 2020 - their MCHC semifinal game against U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) - and showed that being away from the rink for more than a year did not matter. Shaun Benson tallied a first period goal and Drew Lorenz added a late third period empty netter to seal the victory for STAC. Goalie Carl Lorenz (1-0) got the start in net and made 40 stops to pick up the shutout.
