Spartans Fall to Lions, 11-6

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's lacrosse team lost to Georgian Court University, 11-6 this afternoon. Joseph Nyemchek scored three goals for the Spartans while David Pearl had one goal and three assists.

Georgian Court scored right at the start of the game as Michael Negrete's shot connected at the 14:46 mark.  Both teams battled back and forth until the Spartans Kevin Alvora scored off an assist from Pearl to even the score up.  The Lions scored the last two goals of the quarter and the first two goals of the second quarter to open a 5-1 lead.

Thomas Hollway scored off another assist from Pearl at the 10:45 mark and Pearl added a goal of his own to finish off the half.  Down 5-3 to start the third quarter, Nyemchek scored his first goal at the 13:06 mark off an assist from Pearl, bringing STAC within one, 5-4.  That was as close as the host team would get as Georgian Court scored the next three goals to finish off the quarter ahead, 8-4.

Nyemchek added the first and final goal of the fourth quarter both unassisted.  Georgian Court had three fourth quarter goals from three different scorers to hold the Spartans off.  Ryan Mello had 17 saves in the loss for STAC.

The Spartans will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Moravian College.
