Spartans Fall 7-6 in Overtime Against Lions

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's lacrosse team lost 7-6, in overtime against Molloy.  Thomas Hollway scored two goals while Briele Caples added one goal and two assists for the Spartans.

The Spartans got off to a 2-0 start with Hollway scoring the Spartans first goal off an assist from Caples.  Caples added the second goal off an assist from Brenton Mighty.  Molloy added three goals to finish off the first quarter ahead, 3-2.  Dewrail Rockett, Jr. scored the only second half goal for the Spartans who trailed 5-3 at the break.  

The Spartans used a strong third quarter to tie the game up with goals from Tyler Senatore and Hollway while holding the Lions scoreless.  Molloy scored at the 6:50 mark of the fourth quarter to take a 6-5 lead.  Mighty scored off an assist from Senatore with 5:08 remining in the game to even the score, 6-6.  

The Lions connected with a goal from Tim Steinman to earn the victory in sudden death overtime.  Ryan Mello had nineteen saves in goal for the Saprtans.  The Lions held a 50-16 shots advantage over the Spartans.  

Saturday's game was the senior day game for the Spartans four seniors; Briele Caples, Thomas Hollway, Joseph Nyemchek and Dewrail Rockett, Jr.

STAC will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Saint Rose for a 3:00 p.m. game.
