Men's Lacrosse Falls At #5 Mercy College, 18-7

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Lacrosse team dropped a 18-7 decision to #5 nationally ranked Mercy College, on Monday afternoon at Mercy Field.

STAC falls to 1-9 and 0-2 in the ECC, while Mercy improves to 7-1 and 2-0 in conference play.

How it Happened

  • Mercy opened the first quarter, scoring four straight goals, with Jack Gibbons (2), TJ Heyder and Brady Kearnan all finding the back of the net.
  • Jonathan Farley got the Spartans on the scoreboard at the midway point of the stanza to cut the deficit to 4-1.
  • The Mavericks put on an offensive showcase, tallying the next 11 goals, which took them into the early moments of the third quarter. Dominic Scorcia, Brady Kearnan, Robert Guglielmo, Robert LoRicco, Andrew Calabria, Cristian Castles, TJ Heyder, Marty Shargel (2), Mustapha Daffeh and Kyle Gabrinowitz found their way onto the scoresheet to give Mercy a commanding 15-1 advantage.
  • STAC finally broke the hosts scoring streak, as Jason Beddows scored to make it 15-2.
  • However, Mercy got right back to work with Justin DeMonte and Shane Gibbons picking up goals to increase the lead to 17-2.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas found some magic to end the third quarter and begin the fourth. ECC Rookie of the Week Stephen Stolarski, Reno Molina (2), Edward Kelly and Braiden Struss were able to string together five straight Spartan goals to close the gap on the scoreboard at 17-7.
  • Mercy tallied one final goal in the last minute of play, as Ian Votta scored to give the Mavericks the 11-goal victory, 18-7.
