Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Lacrosse team picked up a 14-6 victory over D'Youville University on Friday afternoon at Spartan Field. STAC improves to 2-10 overall and 1-3 in ECC play, while D'Youville drops to 0-8 and 0-3.
Prior to the contest, STAC honored its graduating senior class; Giorgio D'Angelo, Edward Kelly and Michael Bavaro with on-field ceremonies, which included their teammates, families, coaches and college administrators.
How it Happened
- STAC opened the scoring with four first quarter goals, as Peter Johnson, Bo Maroney, Jack Margetson and Stephen Stolarski all found the back of the net to give the hosts a 4-0 advantage through 15 minutes of action.
- D'Youville broke the shutout in the early stages of the second quarter, before the Spartans rattled off three straight goals courtesy of Jonathan Farley (2), and Reno Molina to extend the maroon and gold lead to 7-1 at halftime.
- Following the break, St. Thomas Aquinas outscored D'Youville 5-2 in the third stanza, with Stephen Stolarski, Jack Margetson (2), Reno Molina (2) all tallying goals. STAC continued to lead the contest, with a 12-3 margin on the scoreboard.
- In the fourth quarter, D'Youville narrowed the score, striking first in the frame to make it 12-4. However, the Spartans scored back-to-back goals, as Stephen Stolarski and Michael Bavaro lit the lamp to increase the STAC lead to 14-4.
- The visiting Saints closed the scoring on the afternoon with consecutive goals to make it 14-6, which would be the final result.
Top STAC Performances
- Jack Margetson posted a five point afternoon, with three goals and two assists.
- Stephen Stolarski and Reno Molina recorded three goals each.
- Jonathan Farley picked up two goals for the Spartans.
- Bo Maroney, Michael Bavaro and Peter Johnson tallied a goal apiece. Bavaro's goal is the first of his collegiate career.
- James Staeckeler scooped up a game-high seven ground balls in the match.
- Giorgio D'Angelo (W, 2-8) stopped 11 of 13 shots faced to earn the victory. Craig Peavy saw action beginning late in the third quarter and made five saves.
