Spartans Tie C.W. Post in a Thriller

Spartans End Two Game Losing Streak with a Tie

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's soccer team ended today's game in a 0-0 tie in double overtime against visiting C.W. Post.  The two teams combined for 36 shot attempts and 18 goalkeeper saves in a high intensity game.  Both teams played a hard fought game for the full 110 minutes of play.  The Spartans move to 6-4-3 overall as the Pioneers pickup their first tie to put them at 6-7-1.

Senior Gerald Jones had a chance to win the game as he headed the ball off a corner kick that hit the crossbar and went wide with seconds remaining in the first overtime period.  Jones had three other shot attempts for the Spartans that came up short.

STAC goalkeeper Andrew Tartara had another strong outing in goal with seven saves.  Senior Steven Rozycki had an outstanding game in the backfield for the Spartans taking away numerous shot opportunities.  The Spartans used a balanced attack moving the ball well across the field as nine different players had shot attempts.

The Spartans will return to play on Tuesday against Molloy College at 3:30 PM.
