Neal, Nicholson Lead Spartans to Third Straight Win, 1-0 at Bridgeport

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team won its third consecutive game, a 1-0 triumph in an East Coast Conference battle at the University of Bridgeport. The Spartans improve to 6-2-1 overall and 2-1 in ECC play, with Bridgeport falling to 5-3, 2-2. In addition to their current win streak, STAC is now 6-1-1 over the past eight games overall and has surpassed last season's win total before the end of September.

Though the visitors held a 6-2 advantage in shots, both defenses held firm through a scoreless first 45 minutes. That held until the 53rd minute when Brad Neal emerged from a crowd to put home a long throw from Matthias Adamek. Neal's second of the season, at the 52:20 mark, held up as the game's lone score, with Jack Nicholson earning his third clean sheet of the season. That reduced the senior goalkeeper's goals against average to just 0.57 on the season, as STAC's stingy defense has allowed just five goals over the past seven games.

The Spartans will play their next two at home, both in ECC competition. They return to action on Thursday, October 4, as Roberts Wesleyan pays a visit to Spartan Field with start time at approximately 3:00 pm, after the women's contest starting at 1:00. They will then meet NYIT on Sunday, October 7, starting at approximately 2:00 pm, also as part of a scheduled double-header.
