Second Half Goals Boost Men's Soccer to 2-0 Victory at Queens

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team captured a 2-0 victory in an East Coast Conference battle at Queens College. The Spartans improved to 5-2-1 overall - matching their win total of a year ago - with a 1-1 ECC mark, with Queens falling to 3-3-1, 1-1.

A scoreless first half saw the Spartans hold a narrow 7-5 edge in shots, but Queens goalkeeper recorded four saves and Jack Nicholson turned aside one for STAC to keep the game even.

St. Thomas Aquinas turned up the pressure and finally broke through at 52:43, with Lachlan Wilkinson and Luis Morales combining for assists on George Yusuff's third goal of the season. STAC's tight defense held fast as the Knights were unable to generate much offense, with Clifford Adjei's counterattack strike adding the final blow at 89:34. Nicholson made two saves in posting his second clean sheet of the season, with the visitors holding a 14-8 margin in shots on the afternoon.

The Spartans return to ECC play on Saturday, September 29, traveling to the University of Bridgeport for a 4:00 pm start. They will then play the next three at Spartan Field, starting with a non-conference battle against St. Anselm on Tuesday, October 2 at 3:00 pm.
