Strati's Golden Goal Lifts Spartans to 3-2 OT Victory at Washington Adventist

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team rebounded from a late game-tying goal to capture a 3-2 victory in overtime in a non-conference battle at Washington Adventist University. The Spartans are now 4-2-1 on the season - including 4-1-1 in their last six games - with Washington Adventist dropping to 2-2 with the loss.

After suffering a tough 1-0 defeat to Mercy on a late goal on Saturday, the Spartans jumped on top when Federico Scaglioni found the net at 17:06. Lachlan Wilkinson recorded his second of the season late in the half, giving the visitors a 2-0 edge just 1:47 before intermission.

That lead was far from secure, however, as WAU cut the deficit in half with Daniel Moreira converting from Diego Sosa at 67:28. With time winding down, Gianfranco Castillion found the equalizer on an assist from Douglas Guevarra to tie the game at 84:41, forcing overtime.

With the first extra session winding down, STAC beat the buzzer for the game-winner at the 99:40 mark, when George Yusuff connected with Stavros Strati for his first of the season, giving his team the victory. STAC held a 16-9 advantage in shots for the game, with Jack Nicholson earning the goalkeeping victory in relief of starter Cameron Turner.

The Spartans play their next two games on the road, both in East Coast Conference action, starting at Queens College on Saturday, September 22. They then travel to the University of Bridgeport on Friday, September 28, before returning to Spartan Field to host St. Anselm in a non-conference match on Tuesday, October 2.
