Men's Soccer Drops Overtime Opener at St. Michael's, 2-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team opened the 2019 season with a tough 2-1 overtime loss at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont. The game was the first of the season for both sides.

STAC jumped in front early when Lachlan Wilkinson's free kick was headed home by Jack Hanlon at the 15:34 mark to put the visitors on top. That lead would hold until the final minute of regulation when the pressing Purple Knights converted the equalizer, as Kyle Brady's corner kick was put home by Kenny Cesar with just 39 seconds left on the clock.

St. Michael's carried the momentum into overtime, as Jack Bannon took a long pass and needed just 17 seconds of extra time to put in the golden goal. The Spartans were outshot by a 20-11 margin overall, as goalkeeper Cameron Turner made nine saves while taking the tough loss.

The Spartans close out their New England weekend at St. Anselm College in a 2:00 pm start on Saturday. They will travel to face Holy Family on Wednesday, September 11, before taking to Spartan Field for their home opener against the College of Staten Island on Monday, September 16.
