First Half Outburst Sparks Men's Soccer to 5-0 Decision at UDC

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team exploded for a 5-0 victory in an East Coast Conference contest at the University of the District of Columbia. The Spartans are now 1-9-1 overall this season and 1-5 in the ECC, with UDC falling to 4-9, 2-3.

STAC's recent scoring troubles were not in evidence as Jorge Mazariego opened the scoring just 5:43 into play, followed by Leonardo Osawa making the score 2-0 at 11:25. Anthony Sanchez scored the next two goals - one on an assist from Mazariego at 25:57 and the other from Sun Ming Cho at 33:36 as the visitors took a dominant 4-0 cushion into halftime. Amaan Aslam closed out the scoring at 55:17 on an assist from Juan Pablo Varea.

UDC actually held the shots advantage at 16-9 for the day, but St. Thomas Aquinas made theirs count while Cameron Turner was strong in goal, amassing six saves to earn the clean sheet.

The Spartans will now play their final five games of the season at home, starting on Tuesday, October 22 at 2:30 pm against Bloomfield. They return to conference play on Saturday, October 26, when Queens College visits Spartan Field for a 1:00 pm kickoff.
