Spartans Strike Early in 2-0 Men's Soccer Victory over Bloomfield

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's soccer team won it's second straight game, a 2-0 non-conference victory over Bloomfield College at Spartan Field. The Spartans are now 2-9-1 with Bloomfield slipping to 3-9-1 on the season.

Fresh off Saturday's 5-0 win at the University of the District of Columbia, STAC continued the hot hand by getting on the board in the game's opening minutes. Juan Pablo Carea's cross through the box was deftly redirected into the net by Anthony Sanchez after just 3:33 of play to put the hosts on top. Spartan goalkeeper Cameron Turner kept his team in front with a deft touch of a shot over the crossbar shortly thereafter, and a foul in the penalty area lead to Federico Scaglione's penalty kick goal at 32:06.

With a steady mist turning to rain as the afternoon wore on, Bloomfield came out strong in the second half and had some of their best chances of the game, but Turner and the STAC defense weathered the storm, with the netminder amassing six saves to complete his second consecutive clean sheet.

The Spartans play their final four games of the season at home, with Queens College visiting Spartan Field for an East Coast Conference tilt this Saturday, October 26. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm kickoff, after the completion of the women's teams facing off at 11:00 am. STAC returns to non-conference action against West Chester University at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 29 before wrapping up against Nyack (November 2) and Daemen (November 9).
