Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Soccer team clinched a berth in the upcoming East Coast Conference Postseason Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field. STAC improved to 9-3-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the ECC, while the Redhawks fell to 6-5-3 and 3-2-3 in conference play.

Prior to the contest, the Spartans honored its graduating senior class; Anthony Bolivar Sanchez, Amaan Aslam, Alexander Taylor, Marlon Rowe, Dan Dougill, Asier Vegas and Leonardo Osawa with on-field ceremonies, which included the athletes' families, teammates, coaches and college administrators.

How it Happened

• The Spartans and Redhawks took six shots each in the first half.
• Jorge Umana gave STAC a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on a through ball by Anthony Bolivar Sanchez, which sent Umana in on a breakaway where he danced around Redhawks keeper Jared Gibbons and deposited the ball to the back of the net.
• Four minutes later a throw in would reach the box, where Dylan Ruiz would gain control and flip it to teammate Ryan Curtis for a header goal, past Spartan keeper Asier Vegas to tie the match at 1-1.
• The go-ahead, game-winning goal would come in the 52nd minute with Jose Tovar sending a pass to a wide open Benjamin Lidh inside the box, where he would boot a shot past Gibbons, giving STAC a 2-1 advantage.

• Asier Vegas faced five shots from between the sticks and tallied four of saves to push his record to 8-2-1 on the year.
• Jorge Umana's goal on the afternoon, now gives him six on the season to go along with 19 points.
• Cole Allen led the Spartans with three shots in the match, with two going on goal.
• In addition to the 12-8 edge in shots, STAC led Roberts Wesleyan in corners, 10-2.
