SPARKILL, NY – After playing their last three matches on the road, the St. Thomas 
Aquinas men's tennis team returned to "The Dome" on Senior Day to take on East 
Coast Conference opponent and East Region #3 Queens College.  The Spartans were 
unable to keep their home record unblemished, as they lost to the heavily-favored 
Knights 8-1.

While the score may appear lopsided, the match was much closer than 
it appeared, as STAC rallied after being swept in doubles play. 
Andreu Ferragut '18 (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) continued his stellar play, 
winning at third singles over Ryan Frankel, 6-3, 6-3.  The steady and level-headed 
Spaniard grunted his way to his ninth consecutive singles victory, and is a perfect 4-
0 in ECC singles competition.  

Javier Munoz '17 (Sevilla, Spain) and Aaron Stahl '18 (Dusseldorf, Germany) 
continue to battle in their respective singles positions, but both faltered in the third 
set of their matches.  Against their last three opponents, the two have combined to 
play six singles matches that have made it to the third and final set.  

As a whole, the Spartans squad has had a total of nine third-set finishes in their last three matches. Queens took the deciding match point with wins at fourth and sixth singles.  Roger Almato '19 (Vic, Spain) played an eight-game pro set to close out the day.  The freshman battled hard, but ultimately lost by a score of 8-4.

With the loss, St. Thomas Aquinas falls to 2-2 in ECC play and 9-8 overall.  Queens improves to 11-5 overall, and is currently in first play in the conference with a 4-0 record.  STAC is back in action on Saturday, April 23 at East Region #2 and NCAA #34 New York Institute of Technology.  First serve is set for 11:00 AM.
