Spartans End Fall Season with an 8-0 Win Over Kutztown

ORANGEBURG, NY -  At Match Point Tennis Club, the St. Thomas Aquinas men’s tennis team defeated Kutztown University, 8-0 to conclude their fall portion of the schedule.  This was the program-record fifth straight win for the Spartans.  Double winners on the day were Aaron Stahl ’18 (Dusseldorf, Germany), Javier Munoz ’17 (Sevilla, Spain), Andreu Ferragut ’18 (Palma de Mallorca, Spain), and James Bruce ’18 (London, England).  

Starting off the scoring for the Spartans was the doubles team of Ferragut and Bruce, who won 8-2 at second doubles, quickly followed by Stahl and Munoz at first doubles, who won 8-5.  

At first singles, Stahl defeated Joan Oliver Perez 6-3, 6-4 in front of a rowdy crowd of thirty people enjoying the balcony seating at Match Point.  Ferragut won at third singles 6-2, 6-2, while Munoz also won 6-3, 6-4 at second singles.  Bruce won at fourth singles 6-3, 6-2, utilizing nine aces to get the win.

Roger Almato ’19 (Vic, Spain) was leading at fifth singles 6-0, 3-2 before a time restriction ended the match before he was able to finish.  The Spartans are finished with their fall schedule and will return to action this spring.
