Spartans Sweep ECC Men's Tennis Weekly Awards

St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis players Paul Voigt and Gijs Anton Offringa were recognized by the East Coast Conference with Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors respectively on Monday, after the Spartans opened their 2019 spring season by defeating Merrimack College 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Voigt helped the Spartans open the spring portion of their schedule with a win over the regionally ranked Warriors with singles and doubles victories. In singles play, the sophomore from Cologne, Germany, defeated Alex Federov at the No. 3 position by a score of 6-2, 6-4. He also picked up a win at No. 2 doubles by a score of 7-6 (2).

Meanwhile Offringa, the freshman from Hollandsche Rading, Netherlands, picked up his first singles victory in the Spartans' win over Merrimack. He topped Alec Mackay Rodriguez at No. 4 singles by a score of 6-1, 7-6 (4). 

STAC (2-0) next heads to Florida for four matches over Spring Break. The Spartans take on Bloomsburg (3/10), Millersville (3/11) and Bentley (3/13) in Orlando, before making the short trek to the West Coast of the Sunshine State to face Eckerd on 3/15 in St. Petersburg.
